Coast Guard Investigative Association (CGIA) Update #2
CGIA Members,
It is with sadness that I inform you that President Marty Phillips has had to step down as the associations President due to personal reasons. Marty will still be an active member of CGIA and will continue to support as needed. Marty felt that he could not fulfil the position as President to his best ability. We all thank him for stepping up into the position and continue to see him at the annual conferences. Until a new President is assigned VP Matt Harris will be acting President.
With that said, the association will be holding an election for President at this year’s conference in Brunswick, Georgia. Which is NOW open for registration and booking your lodging. Please get your reservation completed soon to get the great rate that Bud Hall worked so hard on getting for the association.
In the last update I had mentioned that I had re-engaged our relationship with CGIS HQ, and the first step was to re-engage the awarding of the Special Agent of the Year Award for 2019. I am pleased to announce that CGIS HQ is in full support of bring back the award. GREAT news for us!! This now means that I can engage all CGIS on CGIA. I have sent out the ballots to the CGIS regions to start the nomination process.
For all of our Intel members, I am finalizing having Ron Tarpey, Resident Agent, Jacksonville Field Office, CG Counterintelligence Service, to speak at this year conference. I am requesting to have him do a CG Intel in the 21st Century like I did at the Charlotte conference. Should be very interesting.
Remember that the purpose of these updates to make sure that all information, decisions, and notifications are related to all members of CGIA. This transparency will allow ever member to see the direction that CGIA is heading and allow for an equal vote on issues that affect the association.
