Coast Guard Investigative Association (CGIA) Update #6

CGIA Members,
Hope that everyone is doing well and staying safe. As the world continues to change and adapt to the changes/challenges that COVID-19 presents, the association continues to try and keep everyone informed. Below are some updates that I we believe should be passed along.
  1.  CGIA President, Matt Harris, was transferred from the Training Detachment (TRADET) to the CGIS Jacksonville Office. He will continue to communicate with CGIS HQ for their support for the association.

  2.  The current Deputy Director of Operation (DDO) Mark Benek, will be retiring on Friday, the 25th. DDO Benek was a huge supporter if CGIA at the HQ level. Once a new DDO get announced, I will engage with him/her and work on establishing that relationship.

  3. President Harris has requested permission with CGIS HQ to move forward with the process of awarding the CGIA Special Agent of the Year Award for FY2020. We will keep everyone updated as he gets the green light to proceed.

  4. The association is still continue to get a CGIA Facebook account created. More to follow.
On a different note, here is a link to a very interesting article about “The TOP SECRET story of Coast Guard code breaking”. Thanks VP Hall for finding this article.

Please remember the buddy check, and keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers. As with anything, once we get through this, and we will, we will just be that much stronger.

God bless and be safe.
