Coast Guard Investigative Association (CGIA) Update #8
CGIA Members,
Hope that everyone is doing well and staying safe. I wanted to pass on some information to all of you.
On 7/9/2021, an EF-2 tornado with speeds more than 130 mph hit several areas with in St. Marys, Georgia. One tornado hit the RV Park on base destroying all but 2 trailers that were housed there. The second tornado hit the downtown area of St Mary’s and did over $10k worth of damage to the home of one of the BMCs stationed at the Maritime Force Protection Unit (MFPU) located on Kings Bay base.
Coast Guard Investigative Association donated a check for $250 to the Chief to help him and his family. BMC was very thankful to the association for thinking about him and his family during this difficult time.
The Association is currently planning on hold an annual conference in Phoenix, AZ, in 2022. As a country we are making progress with the vaccinations and many states are lifting restrictions, but we as an association must keep in mind the safety of all our members before making a decision.
CGIA has resumed offering new agents a free 1 year membership. This had been put on hold since all training had been suspended for COVID. CGIS has recently graduated over 20 new agents; a mix of active duty, reserve and civilians.
President Harris is currently working with CGIS HQ on re-instating the Special Agent of the Year award. More to come on this.
Please contact your Regional Rep of any member on the board if you have questions or concerns.
God bless and be safe.
